Wednesday Night Worlds

There's a local ride in town that's been in existense since the dawn of time, The Wednesday Night World Championships. Basically a race paced ride that uses routes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Each route will use up exactly all the daylight remaining in the day and will be on roads that are vertually car free.

Anyway, today's ride had a first for me. While cresting a hill, I'm 3 wheels back, #2 rider hits the deck. I plow into him and over the bars I go. I land on my hands and nothing else hits the ground. Total damage to me, cut on my finger. Of course I'm too awesome to be riding in gloves so I thank my lucky stars that it's only one cut and not road rash all over my palms. Other guy...broken bars, banged up saddle, ripped jersey and some road rash on his back.

Let's hope that's the only crash of the year.

Wow. Who hit the deck?? I don't even know who is riding now a days in Salem. That used to be the best ride in town, but kinda faded in the last couple of years. Sounds like it is making a comeback....

Let's just say his name rhymes with Funk’n Bay.
There are a bunch of new racers in town, it's kinda cool. They are very raw and need some help in pack/racing etiquette. I'm doing what I can but what do I know about etiquette.

To the extent you need to hand out any lessons on etiquette, I think most of the newer guys would love to hear it. If I'm riding like an idiot, I'd rather hear about on Wed nights than at the races.

Cool. I kind of invision those rides turning into mini race lessons. That's how I learned. Having Nurre, Yenne or Donald getting after you isn't too fun but it makes you a better rider. There are so many little things that guys don't know about until someone says something.

As far as idiot riding...believe me if someone is being stupid I'll speak up. I haven't seen anything bad. We have a great group of guys eager to race in town, I'd like to engurage that.

You're kidding me. Was he riding no handed like he sometimes does?

No stunt riding, an overlapped wheel took his front wheel out and down he went. It happens, no big deal.

Tsk tsk.

Just sent you an e-mail. (marcroftcycles account)

New racers in town??? Thats kind of exciting.... I feel SO out of touch. The only time I hear what is happening is when Marcroft sends me a text talking about being and his job sucking.... I am really looking forward to being in Salem for the summer. Are you guys all doing Mt. Hood??

Omer-
You're out of touch even when in town :)
No Mt Hood for me. Even if I could swing the time away I don't think I'd make the HB squad they're sending. I'm looking at Cascade for my first NRC event.
Are you staying in town all summer? Summer in the Willamette Valley rules.

just register racing for broadmark and wear some old kit....

i will be in salem from before mt. hood until cascade. there is a good chance that i will have to go back east for a couple of weeks in august and september, but that will depend on which races i am doing. we have had a lot of injuries this season and i have had to do a bunch of extra races. hopefully those guys will be back in form for the summer....
